The ugly truth

The Ugly Truth is a romantic comedy. Remember When Harry Meets Sally (1989), Pretty Woman (1990), Sleepless in Seattle (1993), 4 Weddings and a Funeral (1994), The Truth about Cats and Dogs (1996), You’ve Got Mail (1998), Notting Hill (2001), Bridget Jones Diaries (2001 and 2004) and many-many more. Remember the quirkiness of Hugh Grant in 4 Weddings and Notting Hill.  Renée Zellweger in the Diaries and the cuteness of Tom Hanks in Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve got Mail. Whatever macho images we try to put up in ourselves, watching romantic comedy is pleasing most of the time.
In The Ugly Truth, the backdrop to the story is about 2 tv producers, Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler.

Katherine plays the character of a tv producer who is insecure, since her show’s ratings is down. Gerard’s character is her opposite, confidence and etc. Eric Winter plays the 2nd guy who Katherine’s supposedly falls in love to.
Take away the romance; this film is a good reflection of humanity. Imagine we stand in Katherine’s shoes. Then one day, our boss called and says that we are not good enough and he/she is bringing another guy/ girl – of a same rank; to help us up. How would our ego react to that?
So Katherine faces this question. At one end, she had wanted to be a professional and think positive about it; but can she manages her anger, insecurity and jealousy not to try pulling down Gerard. It is the same office politics everywhere.
See this film, and tell me how much you like it.
