Papadom

Papadom is a beautiful family film. It tells the story of single father who is protective of his daughter. The nasi kandar business provides the backdrop of the film and the comedy is an assured thing, given this is an Afdlin’s movie.

Put ourselves in a single father’s position. How far would we go to protect our daughter? In Papadom, Afdlin narrated the different phases in his life; during the period his wife is still around, during the time he first lost the wife, to the period when the lovely daughter leaves to university.

The film scored very well in the 22^nd Malaysian Film Festival, 2009. It was nominated for 10 awards and won 5. Among the winnings was Best Film, Best Actor – Afdlin Shauki; Best Actress – Liyana Jasmay, Best Original

Screenplay and Best Musical Score – Pacai.

Afdlin Shauki needs no introduction. He first appeared as a Singer but his talents of late centred on his acting, emceeing and directing.

Liyana Jasmay is an upcoming actress. Her films portfolio started in 2006 and since then, she has appeared in 7 movies. She also has her own band.

Pacai is the senior most amongst his peers. He first appeared as a bassist in a teen (then) rock group, Ekamatra. The group has long been disbanded but Pacai thrives on. He has performed in Japan, London and even Kathmandu and Phnom Penh.
